SPEC Innovations’ Tool, Sopatra, Receives Follow-On Award from NASA

Manassas, VA; 04-20-2022: SPEC Innovations is excited to announce the follow-on for our Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) work with NASA using our tool, Sopatra! This work was and continues to be alongside our partner, George Mason University, spearheaded by Dr. Lance Sherry. While the ceiling for Phase I was $150,000 over a 13-month period of performance, Phase II comes in at $750,000 over 24 months.

Our software, Sopatra, takes a written standard operating procedure and converts it into a process Lifecycle Modeling Language (LML) Action Diagram. The user can also upload other files that improve the Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms, and upload time distributions from GMU research to set the duration of each step in the procedure. The models can then be “tested” to see if the procedure works.

During Phase I, we aimed for applying machine learning to enhance NASA processes and improve procedures using Sopatra. Continuing this work will allow us to work on enabling the holographic and audio input of information into NASA’s models.

President of SPEC Innovations, Steve Dam, said, “We are very excited to continue to work with NASA and GMU on this project. It is because of organizations like NASA, who value small businesses, that we can be a part of amazing opportunities such as this. We look forward to all we are going to accomplish using our tool, Sopatra, over the next two years!”
